- Any unsigned artist
- Artists on an independent label (not majority major label owned)
What videos are eligible for submission?
Original videos to which the artist retains all rights, released between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.
Can I submit the same video for multiple categories?
Yes. The IIMVA and the nominating committee categorize all videos for genre and content (in the case of animated and lyric videos) and may include the same video in multiple categories where deemed appropriate.
Can I submit multiple videos?
Yes! Each video must be submitted separately but there is no limit to the number of eligible videos that may be submitted.
Can I win in more than one category?
Yes. Single videos can win in more than one category and separate entries by the same artist can also win concurrently.
When is the submission deadline?
Submissions are open from February 1, 2021 through April 30, 2021.
How do I submit my video?
Videos can be submitted directly to IIMVA or via SonicBids. Click here for our submissions page and full instructions and links.
Is there a cost to submit a video?
Yes. There is $10 submission fee. The proceeds go back to artists by providing physical awards and in the form of prize money for the winners. In the event of an unusually large number of submissions, additional or increased cash prizes may be added.
What are the prizes?
All nominees receive a digital certificate and digital promotional assets for their website/social media/EPK. A physical certificate is available to nominees on request. All category winners, Fan Favorites, and the Video of the Year and Fan Favorite of the Year all receive physical awards. The Video of the Year and the Fan Favorite of the Year also receive a cash prize. The top prize is up to $250.
Will I receive digital assets to help promote my video?
Yes! We provide every nominee with digital images for web and social to help you engage your fans and promote your video in the Fan Favorite voting.
How can I promote my video during the voting period?
Organic promotion to your fans, friends, and family is the best and most reliable way to get votes. Advertising on social and traditional media is allowed, but experience shows that a strong connection to your fanbase is the best route. We also engage in advertising and public relations to promote the overall competition to attract fans to check out all of the nominated videos.
What promotion is NOT allowed?
Any means of digitally inflating the vote count, either via bots, click farmers, or some other method that skews the results away from actual fan votes is strictly forbidden. The IIMVA reserves the right to disqualify any video if we suspect voting by bots, click farming or other unethical means. We analyze the vote results and trends for markers of fraud. At a minimum, those votes are discarded when detected and disqualification may follow.
Is there an in-person awards ceremony?
Due to the pandemic, we will not have an in-person presentation for 2021. The awards will be pre-recorded and will premiere August 1, 2021.
When are the nominations and winners announced?
All submissions are reviewed after the April 30 submissions deadline. Nominees are announced and fan voting begins mid-May. All finalists and winners are announced during the show on August 1, 2021.
How are winners selected?
Winners are selected by a combination of fan voting, for the Fan Favorite awards, and a panel of music industry and media professionals for the category and Video of the Year awards. Up to 60 nominees advance to the final round of judging. A Fan Favorite and category winner is named for each category, currently 24 separate awards. Additionally, a Fan Favorite of the Year is selected by the total fan vote and a Video of the Year is selected by the judges.
